'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Galbraith renews battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he reminisces about the thrilling closing stages of Swansea's remarkable turnaround triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. That match wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles amid the pitch-side pile-on.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith struck the post with a speculative shot from 25 yards, and his teammate promptly hammered in the rebound before sprinting toward the East Stand to celebrate, with fans congregating around the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory completed an unbelievable comeback given Swansea had been behind 2-0 midway through the latter period. During the delirium, there was some minor mishaps. He shared, "There was a spectator trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were wondering: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The victory secured a fourth-round fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with a teammate's volley from about 45 yards going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've given it to him for taking the effort on from that distance," commented Galbraith, who started in midfield before switching to right flank after they changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who praised the way the underdogs played positively.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are exceptional but even the basics and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they know how to control and neutralize a game. You can think you're holding your own and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even seeing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It demands a tough attitude and concentration just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at his former club and has quickly achieved similar status in Wales. At his previous team he linked up again with Richie Wellens, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a spell at fourth-tier Salford, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a bit naive going into senior level. I think a lot of players would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without real physicality. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that development for his team and nation, performing well for Northern Ireland, who could still reach the World Cup next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including home and away encounters against the German national team. His former international manager, Galbraith's former international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his ability to spot a decisive through ball.

Humble Beginnings

This represents a remarkable path for the kid from the neighborhood in his hometown, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his father, his father, also a engine room operator, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Old Trafford Memory

His sole appearance for the Red Devils came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to Astana, where they competed on an plastic turf and the arena covering was closed owing to the weather of -15C. "It was a lengthy journey and it was cold out there," he says, grinning. "The preceding week, the academy prospects practiced as a group, so that assisted our preparation. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was incredible."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "This turned out relatively straightforward, because I reached the point where I realized I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the years at the club but it got to the point where I believed I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play first-team games. Now I'm slowly working my way back up."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a driving theory test, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a minibus driven by club employees, the drivers, which shuttles players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, the Brazilian, Malick Yalcouyé – a former passenger used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to interact with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would travel alongside supporters on public transport after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
